Another one of my favorite pics from the Bridal photoshoot at Casa Verde, Intramuros.
Shel is such a good model, and her range of expressions is awesome. We had this one image where her expression is the total opposite of what she has in this image (but I like my models smiling, so I’m posting this one first).
I think what we both liked about this image is that she looks so much like a débutante. Plus the background provides just the right atmosphere to give the impression of a fairy tale castle.
Looking at this image now, I probably should have used a bokeh effect on the background to make the image more dreamy-like. I’ll probably do that effect through Photoshop instead.
Model: Shel Angeles
Make-up Artists: Leah Lani Lim Asino and Anne Sentillas

I was recently invited to a photo shoot to showcase a beautiful set of wedding gowns for the fashionable bride.
It was the first time that I would get to shoot after a long hiatus and I was fortunate enough to have Kat as my first model. Our personalities were in-sync and Kat was very fun to work with. I barely had to direct her as her experience and instincts were spot on to what we wanted to achieve in the image.
The shoot itself was held at a private park in Intramuros. I saw this arch with just enough overhead foliage to allow pools of light to flow through which I thought would make a wonderful pattern on the dress. (This was a lucky break. It was also an incredibly humid day so I kept looking for shades to put my model in).
This is one of my favorite shots because I got to experiment not only with balancing ambient with flash light, but also because the natural gobo provided by the foliage helped accentuate the idea behind the image.
When Steve Rogers was assassinated at the end of Civil War, I thought it was a symbolic gesture and brave social commentary on the part of Marvel Comics. I felt it was pretty gutsy to take out a real American icon as a reflection on how the world has changed dramatically.
Alas, plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The truism that nobody important stays dead in comics is seemingly being emphasized once again: Captain America is going to be “reborn”.
At worst, this could turn out to be an “interesting” turn of events like Spider-Man’s “One More Day”. Or maybe Marvel wants to ride on the G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra wagon by reminding us that they have always had the ultimate super-soldier.
If Marvel does bring back Steve Rogers, I think it would be a shame if Bucky (the former sidekick who had inherited the name and the mighty shield) had to step down as everybody’s favorite wing-head. We have only just begun to see his potential as an updated super-soldier. I kind of like the idea that Bucky is using more aggressive tactics to deal with enemies who are also fighting smarter.
On the other hand, if it turns out the Marvel was actually just teasing a “What If” type of story, then it would be a bit of an insult to those who actually want to see Steve Rogers back in action.
This is an interesting situation for Marvel. I wonder what message are they trying to say now?
